Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta is confident that Xavi Hernandez is prepared for the managerial job at the Catalan club. Iniesta threw his weight behind Xavi for the Barcelona managerial job in an exclusive interview with Catalan newspaper SPORT. Iniesta believes that Xavi is ready for the job with current boss Ronald Koeman under pressure to perform.

Dutchman Koeman is a former Barcelona player but he’s under pressure due to mixed results at the start of the season in addition to his poor relationship with club president Joan Laporta.

Koeman has led Barcelona to two wins and two draws in the first four league matches this season including the disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Granada. Barcelona needed a late header from young defender Ronald Araujo to preserve their unbeaten start to the new La Liga season by rescuing a point during the home clash with Granada.

The intense pressure on Koeman began in the aftermath of the big defeat at the hands of visitors Bayern Munich. Barcelona were beaten heavily by the Bavarian giants in front of their home fans thanks to the goals from German international Thomas Mueller and Robert Lewandowski (two goals).

The start of the post-Messi era on the Champions League scene didn’t begin well for Barcelona and Koeman as they were on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat. The result increased the pressure on Koeman to keep his job. Apart from Xavi Hernandez, the likes of Antonio Conte, Roberto Martinez and Andrea Pirlo have been linked with the Barcelona job.

Spanish media outlet El Nacional stated recently that Xavi will carry out a major clear-out if he becomes the new Barcelona manager. Players such as new recruits Luuk De Jong and Sergio Aguero could leave the Catalan club if he’s appointed as the replacement for the aforementioned Koeman.
