Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has refused to confirm whether Antoine Griezmann is close to joining the club from Atletico Madrid. The Frenchman has publicly confirmed that he would be parting ways with the Europa League holders at the end of the season and reports have since fancied Blaugrana to secure a transfer agreement.
“We have the Copa del Rey final still to play. We have the chance of winning two titles and we must try to focus on this issue. Afterwards we will have time for everything else – we won’t say anything new when we are talking about players from other teams. We will see (what happens). He (Griezmann) is a great player. We’ve always said so.”
Barcelona wrapped up the Spanish La Liga title with three games to spare and they have the formality of facing Eibar on the road during the final matchday of the campaign. The game may witness Valverde resting some of the regulars with a view to the Copa del Rey final against Valencia, where they are the overwhelming favourites.
The Catalan giants have won the Copa del Rey in each of the previous four seasons and they have the opportunity to lift the trophy for the unprecedented fifth occasion while bagging the domestic double for the second successive campaign. Despite this, they may not be entirely content about the season after squandering a golden chance of winning the Champions League title this term.
